Author Kimberly Cheryl

Kimberly was born in St Louis, MO., the oldest of 3 girls. She is very close to her sisters, parents, cousins and nieces and wouldn’t know what to do without her family and their support!

After a school career that included years of failed chemistry classes that began too early in the morning (a professed night owl).  She switched from a pre-med career to one of business administration.  She graduated with an MBA and, later, a PhD in Criminal Justice.   And, for 18 years, traveled, taught, trained and led a sales team full-time as a pharmaceutical representative with 3 of the top Pharmaceutical Corporations in the U.S.

Born into a family of readers, Kimberly had never known a time that she wasn't reading or making up stories.  Therefore, after a major life altering auto accident, the need for back surgery, a long recovery period, no respite in sight and a dwindling supply of chocolate, she decided to pull out a pencil and notebook and began to write about her experiences and share some of the knowledge she had gained throughout her career.

Today, she is the founder and managing partner of Executive Defense Technology, LLC, an anti-victimization education firm.  She is also a Nationally Certified Rape/ Aggression/ Defense Trainer (RAD).  She actively speaks out for better health care in the U. S. and is an advocate for education on Rape/molestation prevention.

As a speaker, author, consultant and certified RAD instructor, she helps clients optimize their personal safety. As a seminar leader, she provides a comprehensive course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands on defense training. Her clients include everyone from elderly church group members and housewives to employees of law firms, TV / Radio Stations and other Fortune 500 Corporations.

Dreams. When I was growing up, I dreamed about becoming a doctor. Not a pharmacist, like my father, or a teacher, like my mother—certainly not a writer, although I always loved to read. I didn’t know anything about writers. It never occurred to me they were regular people and that I could grow up to become one, even though I loved to make up stories inside my head. I’m sure one of the reasons I excelled in sales was my ability to spin stories when needed – there isn’t anything more powerful than the written and spoken “word”.

Stories. I made up stories to help go to sleep at night.  And I made them up while I practiced the piano to make the time go faster. I even kept a notebook with the names of my pretend characters and how they were doing. I always had an active imagination. But I never wrote down any of my stories. And I never told anyone about them.

These Days.  I live in St Louis with my husband, teenage daughter, son and our collection of pets which include a 26 pound cat and 130 pound Newfoundland.  Our lives are busy, sometimes too much so, but never dull!  I guess my adolescent rebellion has decided to come late. At 41, I’ve decided on a complete life change. I don’t recommend waiting this late - better to drag your parents through it than your kids. But here is where I find myself today….

When I began to write, people humored me. "You've always been such a dreamer!" Some discouraged me. "Do you know what the odds are...do you know how many would-be writers there are out there?" Some were actually angry. "What makes you think you can write?"

Like every other “project” I begin in my life, I began to research. Research on what I wanted to write about and research on “How To Write”.  I asked many questions from other authors.  Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any hard and fast rules for writing, and no secret tricks, because what works for one person doesn't always work for another. Everybody is different. That's the key to the whole business of writing - your individuality.

The best advice I got?

Good luck! And write about what you love and are passionate about -

So...Here are my stories - I hope you enjoy them!
